About Product First

Product experience. Commercial thinking. A different way to grow.

I’m Beth Dwyer, founder of Product First.

I’ve spent more than 15 years working in retail, buying, product development and e-commerce, building ranges, developing products, managing suppliers and making the commercial decisions behind what gets launched, what gets scaled and what gets left behind.

And there’s one thing I’ve learned:

More products don’t automatically create more growth.

Why I created Product First

Product First was born from something I kept seeing in ecommerce.

When growth slows, the instinct is often to look at marketing first.

More ads. More content. More launches. More promotions.

But sometimes the real problem is sitting much closer to home.

The range has become too complicated. The products worth scaling aren't getting enough attention. Bestsellers haven't been developed into true hero products. New launches are competing with what's already working.

That's where I come in.

Product First helps ecommerce founders make better commercial decisions about what to sell.

What should you scale?

What should you simplify?

Where is the next product opportunity?

And what probably doesn't need to be there at all?

15+ years of product experience

My career has been spent inside product businesses, making these decisions for real.

I've worked across senior buying, product and ecommerce roles, with responsibility for everything from product strategy and range architecture to pricing, margin, sourcing, supplier management and new product development.

That experience means I don't look at a product range in isolation.

I look at how customers shop it.

What is driving the business.

What is competing for attention.

Where margin and growth opportunities may be hiding.

And which products have the potential to carry far more of the brand.

It's commercial product thinking developed through years of actually doing the job.

The Product First way

I believe great ecommerce businesses are built around great products.

Products customers understand.

Products they remember.

Products they come back for.

And ranges where every product has a reason to exist.

Product First combines ecommerce product strategy, range optimisation, hero product development and senior product leadership to help founder-led brands create that clarity.

Because sometimes the answer isn't another launch.

It's making better decisions about what you already have.

Find the products worth scaling. Build from there.

“The best product strategy gives you confidence in what to back and what to leave behind.” - Beth Dwyer
